A short walk in the Blair Estate in Dalry, North Ayrshire, Scotland, on a fine summer day

Blair Estate, just outside Dalry, is a place I came across while looking for a quiet, short walk. Although it’s a private estate, there’s a really enjoyable circular route you can follow through the grounds. It’s about two and a half miles long and starts easily enough from Dalry train station, which makes it simple to reach even without a car.

The walk begins by heading out of town along Blair Road, crossing the A737, and following the track near the estate gates. Once inside, the path winds through mature woodland and past the edge of a walled garden. The gravel track is clear and easy to follow, and the surroundings feel calm and well cared for.

You cross the Bombo Burn a couple of times during the route, and there’s a small waterfall along the way that’s especially nice after a bit of rain. The path loops past Blair House itself, though you don’t go too close, and then circles back through the trees to rejoin the road near the gate where you started.

The whole route is flat and well maintained, so it’s suitable for almost anyone, including families or anyone just looking for a gentle outing. One thing that really stood out to me was how peaceful it was, even though it’s close to town, it feels quiet and spacious. If you go early in the year when the sun is out, you’ll likely see moody shadows from the trees covering the woodland floor, which adds something special to the walk.

The estate does have a few access rule. Dogs aren’t allowed, and occasionally parts may be closed, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for any signs. But overall, it’s a pleasant, straightforward walk that I’ve really enjoyed and would happily do again.
