A summer walk on the Doggartland trail cut short due to boggy ground making the route unwalkable.

This walk on the Doggartland trail did not go to plan. During the height of summer, the expectation was for firm and dry paths, but the ground conditions were unexpectedly boggy. The trail quickly became unwalkable, making it difficult to continue.

Starting out, the walk seemed promising with seasonal weather and the anticipation of exploring the trail. However, the soft and waterlogged ground made progress slow and increasingly challenging. The usual enjoyment of being outdoors was replaced with the need to carefully navigate each step, looking for any sections of firmer ground.

Despite efforts to continue, the conditions remained the same and the decision was made to turn back. The return journey was just as difficult, with the path offering little relief from the wet and uneven surface. This was a surprising experience for the summer months, when most trails are expected to be dry and more accessible.

Due to the conditions of this trail, I had a little rant about North Ayrshire’s Council’s lack of investment in the route and local area.
