A springtime walk to see the lambs at the Blair Estate in Dalry, North Ayrshire, Scotland.
I went for a walk around the Blair Estate recently, on one of those bright spring days when the sun actually feels warm. The ground was still a bit damp in places, but the paths were mostly dry and easy to follow.
The best part was seeing the lambs in the fields. Some were still a bit wobbly on their legs, sticking close to their mothers, while others were full of energy, running around in little groups. They’re always fun to watch, especially when they suddenly stop and stare at you like you’re the strange one.
There were a few birds calling from the trees, and every now and then you’d catch the scent of freshly mown grass. Plenty of plant life and flowers were starting to sprout, not many yet, but enough to notice.
The estate was quiet apart from the lambs bleating, the occasional rustle in the undergrowth and the sound of water moving through the burn. I didn’t see many people, just a couple of dog walkers in the distance, which suited me fine.
By the time I headed back, the sun was still out and the whole place felt calm. It’s a simple walk, but one that reminds me why I like getting outside this time of year. Everything’s just starting to come back to life.
