A peaceful coastal walk along the east side of Cumbrae, from ferry landing to the heart of Millport, with sun breaking through as the day unfolds.

In this video, I take you along on a lovely walk along the east coast of Great Cumbrae, a small Scottish island you can reach by ferry from Largs. It’s a peaceful place with quiet roads and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a bit of solo exploring.

I started the day catching the ferry over and setting off on foot, sticking close to the coastline as I made my way down towards Millport. It was overcast at first, but still quite warm, and the cloud cover gave everything a calm, muted look. As I kept walking, the clouds began to shift and by the time I was halfway to Millport the sun had broken through and the temperature climbed quickly. That sudden change in weather really lifted the walk and made everything feel much brighter and more alive.

The Waverley paddle steamer made an appearance. I got a good view of it passing between Cumbrae and Largs.

Eventually, I arrived in Millport where things picked up a little with the buzz of the town, but it still kept that relaxed island feel. If you’re looking for a walk that’s not too demanding but still gives you plenty to enjoy, this stretch of Cumbrae is well worth a go.
